Geetha, Salinda lose organiser posts

Eleven distrct/electoral organisers replaced

 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Parliamentarians Geetha Kumarasinghe and Salinda Dissanayake have lost their organiser posts with measures taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint 11 new electoral organisers of the SLFP.

UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera confirmed that Kumarasinghe and Dissanayake have been removed from the positions they held as SLFP organisers.

North Western Provincial Councillor Kamal Indika has been appointed the organiser of the Hiriyala electorate, which was organised by Dissanayake.

Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha former Chairman Gayan Krishan Sirimanna and Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha former Chairman Amila Harshana Kariyawasam have been appointed co-organisers for the Bentara –Elpitiya electorate, where Kumarasinghe was the organiser.

President Sirisena yesterday also appointed eight new district and electoral organisers of the SLFP. The letters of appointment were handed over to the new organisers by the President at the Presidential Secretariat. Pradeep Jayawardene, grandson of late President J. R. Jayewardene has been appointed as the Gampaha District Organiser. Former provincial councillor of the Western Province, Gamini de Silva and Buddika Iddamalgoda have been appointed Colombo district organisers. Besides, four new district organisers were appointed by the President yesterday.

Accordingly Manula Chamal Perera has been appointed as the Kalutara District organiser, Piyal Dharshana Guruge as the Galle District Organiser, Nalin Pushpakumara as the Kegalle District organiser and Thushara Tilakarathne as the Kurunegale District organiser.

After handing over the appointment letters,President Sirisena stressed on the new organisers the need to dedicate themselves towards people-friendly clean politics.

“Everyone is duty bound to dedicate and devote themselves to clean politics while abiding by the policies of the SLFP,” he noted.

He added politicians should respect the policies of the SLFP and they should be ready to do away with fraud and corruption.

“You should identify your responsibilities when performing your political duties,” the President requested from the new organisers.

When the Daily News contacted SLFP Galle District Parliamentarian and former Bentara -Elpitiya Organiser Geetha Kumarasinghe yesterday in this regard, she was reluctant to comment on the issue saying it has been planned to hold an exclusive media conference today to comment on the matter.“I will hold a special press conference today aiming to comment on the matter and I’ll disclose all to the media,” she said.
