Rescue operations hampered by floods and landslides

 

 

Rescue operations in flood and landslide affected area have been hampered due to continuing rain and floods in those areas, officials stated. 

 

Further, the water level of the Kelani River, which was rising at a rapid rate yesterday, continued to increase this morning. Residents in the surrounding and riverbank areas were evacuated yesterday, and rescue operation with the assistance of the tri forces are currently being conducted to help those in need of assistance in those areas.  

 

The Sri Lanka Navy was seen evacuating those who were trapped in upper floors of buildings, due to the increasing water levels surrounding the Kelani River and its suburbs.
