Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman M. K. Amila, a member of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) has been removed as chairman and PS member.
This is after he was found guilty of assaulting two policemen at Danduhetekma on May 26, 2013. Later charges were levelled against Amila for obstructing the duties of the policemen and in the judgement given last week, the courts found him guilty.
The Elections Commission has informed Amila of his removal in a letter noting that following the judgement given by court, he is not eligible to continue under existing laws relevant to Pradeshiya Sabha’s.
The Elections Commission has also informed Amila that the decision to remove him as Chairman and PS member was taken after the Attorney General had informed the Commission of the court’s ruling.
