Muslims demolish Thawheed mosque

A mosque used by Thawheed Jamaath members in Madatugama in Kekirawa was demolished by the Muslims in the area with the support of the members of Madatugama Jumma Mosque yesterday.

A resident named Akbar Khan said the mosque was constructed using foreign funds on a plot of land reserved to build a library. “We do not need another mosque in this area. Therefore I decided to demolish it,” he said.

The residents had also destroyed a plaque containing Arabic letters. The residents said that it contained a list of names of the foreign donors who gave money to construct the mosque.

Another resident named Mohamed Ameen said the members attached to Thawheed Jamaath used the demolished mosque for their prayers.
