Television is often considered a medium for bringing joy and excitement to many. The charming, and talented Ruvi Lakmali (Ruwini Lakmali Herath) brings her multi-faceted skill to bear in this medium in Sri Lanka.
Ruvi Lakmali, a resident of Bandarawela, is the youngest and only girl among three siblings. She received her education up to the Advanced level at Visakha Girl’s College in Bandarawela, where she had dreamt of becoming a dance teacher.
Fate, however, had other plans. Her destiny was decided for her after being crowned the ‘Sirikatha’ Avurudu Kumari in the Uva Province. She received numerous invitations to portray key roles in teledramas after that. These include Aruna Jayawardena’s ‘Adaraneeya Heenaya’ , ‘Tharumalee’ telecast in the Swarnavahini and ‘Hiru Thaniwela’ telecast on Hiru TV . She has confessed that her journey in these fields has been at ‘snail’s pace’ with no haste.
She portrayed the characters of Nelum in ‘Mosum Sulang’ and the lead role of Yaso, a final year medical student, in ‘Vihanga Geethaya’. Both these Tele drams comprised of around 55 episodes and were telecast on state channels ITN and Rupavahini. For her spellbinding role in the latter, she has received many accolades.
More lately she portrayed the role of Sanduni in popular teledrama ‘Haraspara’ and as Swethaki in ‘Deiyange Rate’. Although she has portrayed roles in many more teledramas, they are yet to be telecast.
The latest films nearing completion are ‘Ashwaree’ where she portrays the character of Arundathie. She also acted in the film ‘Ganuu’. In all these teledramas and films, she was fortunate to work alongside skilful artistes who have been in the field for decades and from whom she had won respect .Some of them were Ramya Wanigasekera, Veena Jayakody, Douglas Ranasinghe, Dilhani Ekanayake, Mahendra Perera, Kamal Deshapriya, and Bandula Wijeweera. She has also acted with popular young actors like Saranga Dissasekera, Dananjaya Siriwardena, Niroshan Wijesinghe, Hemal Ranasinghe etc. She loves accepting challenging and diverse typescripts and has faith that her hard work will be recognized and rewarded some day.
Ruwi’s debut film was ‘Withered Leaf’ had been selected for the India’s XV1 edition International Film Festival in Madrid, Spain. The same film was selected to be screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne ,Victoria Australia in 2016.
Ruvi has emerged as a much sought-after actress for television commercials. Ruvi credits her success and achievements to her mother who had been guiding and encouraging her throughout her journey. Ruvi married Nakul Prasad, an executive at a television advertising company, three year ago and now lives in Colombo.
