Multiple safety measures including a Health Desk have been introduced at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) against the deadly Coronavirus, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniaarachchi informed the House yesterday.
According to Health Minister Wanniaarachchi, all passengers arriving at the BIA will be informed about the Health Desk prior to their descent along with instructions to seek the assistance of the medical team positioned at the desk if any passenger is feeling symptoms of the infection.
The Health Minister also said that passengers’ body temperature will be automatically detected when they walk through the terminal by thermal scanners.
Health Minister Wanniaarachchi further said, “Both the President and the Prime Minister spoke to me concerning the virus outbreak and instructed me to take necessary measures. “I can assure that as a Government, we have taken all relevant precautions to make sure the country is safe from this outbreak”.
“Only one incident has been reported from the Health Desk where a Chinese child was directed to the IDH. Following a check-up it was revealed that the child was only suffering from diarrhoea and a fever. He was cleared and released. There was no other incident reported.
All the passengers arriving from China will be closely examined as well,” Wanniaarachchi said. Minister Wanniaarachchi also said that the Director General of Health Services is in communication with the World Health Organization on the international pronouncements regarding the outbreak
