Do not conduct Masses till March end - Cardinal

Muslims urged to refrain from conducting prayer gatherings - ACJU

Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has emphasized that there should be no mass on Sundays and weekdays until the end of March in an attempt to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

The Archbishop while thanking the Security Forces personnel for their efforts in helping contain the situation said that he believed they would do all that is possible to make sure that ordinary citizens is safe.

The Cardinal also urged people to avoid spreading false propaganda through social media.

Meanwhile, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) in a communique has called on Muslims to refrain from hosting the Friday Jummah prayers and the daily five times prayer in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

In a tweet posted yesterday, ACJU requested the Muslim community to temporarily stop Jummah and the five congregational prayers and all forms of public gatherings at mosques.
