The Catholic Bishops’ Conference (CBC) in Sri Lanka has called on all Catholics to observe March 22 as a day of fasting and prayer, continue to recite the Prayer to our Lady of our Country and recite the Hail Mary three times, after the Post Communion prayer during the celebration of all Holy Masses, seeking Our Blessed Mother Mary to intercede with God to prevent, protect and heal all concerned in our country and all other countries and to rid the world of this devastating virus.
A statement in this regard was issued by the President of the CBC, Rt. Rev. Dr. J. Winston S. Fernando, Bishop of Badulla,President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference in Sri Lanka and the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo and Secretary General Rt. Rev. Dr. J.D. Anthony Jayakody yesterday.
The statement said the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is not a respecter of personages and no one is spared.
“Let us be compassionate towards anyone who has contracted the virus and help direct the person to the health authorities and care givers to restore the person’s health and voluntarily seek treatment ourselves on the slightest suspicion of being infected by it.”
The CBC also appreciated and commended the medical attention and healthcare provided to prevent the virus from spreading and the treatment given through a quarantine process.
While assuring that they are in compliance with the measures taken by the State authorities to safeguard public health, the CBC also called on all sectors and people to give their fullest cooperation to arrest the prevailing situation.
