Another one million families with financial difficulties would benefit from the Government allowance of Rs. 5,000 in the future, Co-cabinet Spokesman Plantation Industries and Export Agriculture Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana said yesterday.
He told the media that around 5.4 million families have already benefited through the relief assistance program successfully implemented under the guidance of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, considering the difficulties faced by them during the COVID-19 outbreak.
“It has also been identified that around one million families island-wide also facing difficulties without having any financial support to fulfill their day today requirements. Considering this situation, relevant government officials of all 14,000 Grama Niladhari divisions have already been instructed to prepare a list of such families and currently they are preparing those lists,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet of Ministers has also approved the proposal made by Higher Education Minister Bandula Gunawardene seeking approval to use 51 PCR machines belonging to Government universities to accelerate COVID-19 testing process.
