Relief for garment factory workers

Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranathunga said yesterday that the Government has decided to grant Rs.5000 allowance to the families of the garment factory workers across the country who had not even received their April salaries.

 

Meanwhile, families of migrant workers, private sector workers, estate sector workers and daily wage workers severely hit by the impact of COVID – 19 are also granted an allowance of Rs 5000," the Minister said. 

 

He added that if workers under these categories have still not received Rs.5000 allowance, they can make an appeal to the Community committees set up in their respective villages.

 

Meanwhile, steps have been taken to provide a relief package containing essential food items to over 13,000 stranded workers  living in congested rooms in boarding houses due to the curfew in the Gampaha district.
