Ex- President and PM given further time to file objections over Easter Sunday attack petitions

The Supreme Court today granted further time till June 16 for former President Maithripala Sirisena and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe to file objections against the fundamental rights petitions filed over the Easter Sunday attacks. When the twelve Fundamental Rights petitions were came up before Supreme Court three-judge-bench, President's Counsel Faiszer Musthapha with counsel Pulasthi Rupasinghe appearing for former President Maithripala Sirisena informed court that some parties yet to serve notices on their client.

Taking into consideration the facts, Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Justice Buwaneka Aluwihare, Justice S. Thurairaja and Justice Gamini Amarasekara directed to serve notices on the respondents before May 22. The petitions are to be mentioned on May 27 to ascertain weather the relevant papers were served on the parties.

The respondent parties were directed to file their objections before June 16 and petitioners were directed to file their counter objections before July 16. Twelve petitions were fixed for argument on September 2, 3 and 4.
