Minister inspects proposed largest cricket stadium

Information Communications Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovation Minister Bandula Gunawardena yesterday engaged in an observational tour at the proposed largest international cricket stadium to be built in Sri Lankla in Diyagama, Homagama.  

Minister Bandula Gunawardena said, “it is ready to resume construction works of the proposed largest Cricket stadium which was recently stopped construction to be built in Sri Lanka. The Stadium will be constructed on a 26-acre land with a total seating capacity of 60,000 to accommodate the fans and a stadium which can play day and night matches. As the first phase of this stadium, capacity will be provided to accommodate around 40,000 fans. The second phase will provide seating capacity for 20,000 with the best facilities.”

Urban Development Ministry Secretary Priyantha Bandu Wickrama, Urban Development Authority Director General Prasad Ranaweera, Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva and officials of the Urban Development Authority were present on the occasion.
