106 listed corporates report impacts to CSE

As of last Friday , 106 listed companies out of a total of 289, disclosed to the Colombo Stock Exchange ( CSE) what impacts COVID 19 has had and would have on their performance which is of paramount importance to the investing public, market sources told Daily News Finance.

The CSE on April 20, 2020, had requested all listed companies to disclose as a matter of priority the impact the pandemic has had on their respective businesses, the company’s response to the impact and the expected future impact of COVID-19 on the company’s future operations and the financial condition. Companies listed on the CSE have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak in a substantial manner posing significant risk to their business operations whilst its future effects remain uncertain.

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) notes that the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the business activities of Listed Companies in a substantial manner. Whilst many Listed Companies have recognized it as a significant risk to their business operations, its future effects on the company remain uncertain.

The CSE acknowledges that it may be difficult to assess or predict with precision the broad effects of COVID-19 on industries or individual companies. Further, the CSE also understands that the actual impact would largely depend on several factors beyond a company’s control and knowledge. CSE has always considered that timely, robust, and accurate information provided by Listed Companies is of paramount importance to the investing community for the sustenance of a fair and orderly market. In this context, the CSE is of the view that the effects COVID-19 00000has on Listed Companies and how the company has responded to the impact of the pandemic is material for the investors in making investment decisions.

Shareholders and investors are closely monitoring the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the business performance/operations of Listed Companies and expect them to provide meaningful and accurate information in a proactive manner In this context, although the pandemic is still continuing and it is difficult to forecast the outlook, it is expected that the listed companies give due consideration in making a timely disclosure to its investors., the CSE has told listed companies .
