For the first time Sri Lanka will be formulating two new sports associations, Sri Lanka Women’s Beach Netball Association and Sri Lanka Masters Netball Association.
The five members each for a temporary committee will be nominated on June 11 at 11 a.m at the Sports Ministry to handle the groundwork to get the associations formed.
President Netball Federation Lakshmi Victoria told the Daily News that Sri Lanka netballers have been representing the country at many international Beach Netball and Masters Games in various parts of the world.
“However there are no proper Associations for them and it’s to this end that we proposed to formulate a Women’s Beach Netball Association and Sri Lanka Masters Netball Association,” she said.
Victoria said that the 5-member committee that will be appointed on Thursday will set and draft a constitution and also do the other ground work to form the two bodies. “We hope to have the AG of these two bodies in six months with the blessings of the Sports Ministry.”
Commenting on the Netball Federation AGM she said that it was scheduled to be held in May but was pushed back due to the Covid-19 lockdowns.
The NFSL is now planning to hold a council meeting on June 11 and 10 a.m. prior to the formation of the Women’s Beach Netball Association and Sri Lanka Masters Netball Association to discuss steps that should be taken to host the AGM.
“Most likely the AGM will be held in August.”
