Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Gampaha District candidate, former Deputy Minister today filed a lawsuit in Colombo District Court challenging UNP working committee’s decision to expel him from UNP party membership.
In his lawsuit, Ranjan Ramanayake had named UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and UNP Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake as defendants.
Ramanayake stated that he had always acted in compliance with the decisions taken by the UNP working committee. Ramanayake complained that the UNP working committee had taken a decision to expel him from UNP membership in violation of the principles of natural justice. Former Deputy Minister further complained that he had been removed from party membership in an ad-hoc manner even without conducting a disciplinary inquiry
Ramanayake is seeking an order to quash the UNP working committee’s decision to expel him from party membership on July 27.
