CCC look well poised to retain the SLC Premier Tier ‘A’ Inter-Club Cricket Tournament Super Eight title for the second successive year when they take on Chilaw Marians CC in their final three-day league match commencing today (25) at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place.

In fact, CCC are assure of the Super Eight title whatever the outcome of this fixture as they have already built up an unassailable lead of 21.06 points over their nearest rivals Chilaw Marians CC.

CCC’s championship success of course, was seal during the weekend when they figured in a massive run chase to obtain crucial first innings points in the high profile game against NCC worked off at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo.

On that occasion, the match winners was Sri Lanka’s premier batsman and Skipper Kusal Mendis who hit a trail blazing double century to help CCC overtake NCC’s first innings total of 467 with ease.

“I think this has been a very special season for CCC as we have won back-to-back Premier titles after many years,” Coach Tharanga Dhammika told the Daily News yesterday.

“This year’s Premier Tournament is probably one of my toughest assignments as coach as all National players were representing their respective clubs,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chilaw Marians CC would start the game in a rather dejected mood, as they would still end up as the runners-up even if they record an outright victory.

Joining the contest for the runners-up spot are two other teams, NCC and Ragama CC who are currently placed third and fourth respectively in the points table.

NCC will meet Colts CC at the CCC Grounds in Maitland Crescent while Ragama CC will be up against BRC at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo.

In addition, Saracens SC will take on Army SC in another fixture at Katunayake.
