Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranathnga yesterday directed the airport officials to take measures to install several more scanners at the Bandaranaike International Airport to inspect export goods without any delay to exporters.
The Minister made these remarks during the discussion held with exporters and all other relevant stakeholders in the export sector at the Ministry premises.
The meeting had been convened to discuss measures to systematise the goods imports process and also solving problems faced by exporters.
Exporters requested the Minister to take action to install a sufficient number of scanners at the entrance to the airport to fast track inspection of their exports without hassle.They stressed that if the quality of the export goods decrease, they could incur huge losses.
The minister advised officials to install a sufficient number of scanners and officials at two points including the airport entrance and before boarding the aircraft.
