The United National Party is ready to tie up with other parties including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya to work against the Government, said former Parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe.
Addressing a press conference in Anuradhapura on Sunday, Marasinghe said that they have received information of destruction caused to the forests.
“Filling of marshy lands, clearing of catchment areas are taking place and those who acting against these activities are being intimidated by the Government,” he said
He said that the temperature in the country is going up. He said that the present Government is responsible for the escalation of temperature due to deforestation.
“Nearly 65 elephants have died during the past 65 days and the number of elephant deaths last year was about 300”, he said.
Former Parliamentarian Saman Ratnapriya said that COVID-19 pandemic has become an avenue for making money for the Government.
“The country lost Rs.15,950 million due to the alleged sugar scam. We request the Government to appoint a fully-fledged Commission to look into and punish those responsible for the scam,” he said.
