Karunaratne named in Wisden World Test Team

Sri Lanka Test Captain and opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne has been named in the World Test Team by Wisden Cricketers Almanack.

The 33-year-old stylish left-hander played 10 matches in the ICC World Test Championship and accumulated a total of 999 runs with an excellent average of 55.5 inclusive of four hundreds and four half-centuries.

He collected 428 runs with one double century, one century and one half-century including a career-best 244 which was also his maiden double hundred during the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. The World Test Team is led by New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson while three Indians namely, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper) are also named in the team.

In addition, three Australians namely Steve Smith, Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne have also been named in this team.

Meanwhile, India with 520 points and New Zealand with 420 points finished in first and second places respectively of the ICC World Test Championship.

Sri Lanka finished in eighth place with 200 points after playing 12 matches. Sri Lanka won only two Test matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh but lost six matches and they figured in four drawn matches. The World Test Championship has just one contest left - the big final between India and New Zealand schedule to commence on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton.
