Public Sector employees engaging in COVID-19 related duties will be prioritised in the immunization programme of the Matale District, Public Administration Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon said. The Minister was speaking at the Matale District COVID-19 Control Committee Meeting held at the District Secretariat on Tuesday.
“Accordingly, all the Divisional Secretariat Offices, other public service offices and field officers including the Grama Seva Officers, Development Officers and Samurdhi Officers of the district will be given the priority for vaccination,” the Minister said.
“Following the vaccination of nearly 8,000 public sector employees within the coming week, the immunisation programme will be extended to all the Grama Seva divisions,” he added.
The Matale District needs a total of 350,000 doses of vaccines of which the first bulk of 100,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine will be received by the next week,” he further added.
A total of 3,100 frontline employees in the health and security sectors, including Police and Tri-Forces personnel have been vaccinated todate.
