The Captain of the X-Press Pearl ship which caught fire in the seas near the Colombo Port was today ordered to be released on a personal bond of Rs. 2 million by the Colombo High Court.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta.
The High Court judge also imposed a travel ban against the accused and ordered him to produce his passport to Court.
The Captain, a Russian national was arrested by the CID today and produced before the High Court on the basis that he had neglected his responsibility in connection to the incident.
Deputy Solicitor General Madhava Tennakoon appeared on behalf of the Attorney General and President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanne appeared for the accused. The case will be taken up again on July 1, 2021.
