Singapore’s Alliance to End Plastic Waste donates 12 Beach Tech Sweepy Hydros to Sri Lanka

On the request of the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore, with the co-ordination of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, the Singapore-based global non-profit, the Alliance to End Plastic Waste has committed to donate Sri Lanka, 12 Beach Tech Sweepy Hydros, 8 of which are already here in Sri Lanka. Foreign Secretary Admiral (Prof) Jayanath Colombage, will formally hand over the equipment to State Minister of Low land Development and Coast Conservation Mohan Silva and Marine Environment Protection Authority Chairperson Dharshani Lahandapura, today at Sarukkuwa Beach in Negombo at 8.30 am.

The total value of the machinery is about $180,000. The machines will help with the clean-up of plastic waste from the ship X-Press Pearl, which sank off Sri Lanka’s West Coast in May 2021 causing significant environmental damage.
