The Government is planning on administering a third vaccine dose or a booster shot to Sri Lankans in the future, Army Commander and the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Head General Shavendra Silva told the media today.
He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave this instruction at the last Taskforce meeting. He said the officials in charge of vaccination were studying the possibility and would place orders for more doses as necessary.
A booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine is being rolled out in some foreign countries.
The Army Commander said that 93 percent of the people in the country have been given the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 23 percent have been given both doses.
