The gale lasted for several minutes. It had lifted asbestos and other roofing sheets and carried those over 200 metres away, residents said.
Along with the gale, heavy rains occurred and washed away furniture and other goods in many houses, they said. Even massive teak trees at the Anamaduwa State Teak Reserve had fallen in the gale and heavy rains, they said.
