Large demonstrations by political parties or organisations have to be postponed for the sake of the safety of the innocent people of this country as the number of COVID-19 infected people is on the increase again, Public Health Inspector’s Union president Upul Rohana said.
He said the political demonstrations against the Government planned by the Samagi Jana Balavegaya scheduled for today have to be stopped.
He said the threat of COVID-19 spread in the country had been controlled to a considerable level due to the sacrifices made by all in the Health Sector, the Armed Forces and other frontline sectors adding that their sacrifices will be in vain if people behave in an irresponsible manner by organizing illegal gatherings.
Rohana said the virus is slowly spreading again and large public gatherings may aggravate the situation.
He said all public demonstrations are now prohibited by a Special Gazette notification by the Director General of Health Services.
