COSMI, CIPE, VR partner to explore externalities of large scale infrastructure

The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) recently signed an agreement with the Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Industries (COSMI) alongside knowledge partner USAID Funded Verite Research (VR) to explore the externalities of large-scale infrastructure projects. The agreement will see knowledge sharing between CIPE and COSMI alongside knowledge partner Verite Research.

The agreement was signed on January 20 at the Colombo Club within the Taj Samudra Hotel. The agreement will see CIPE gaining more insight into issues that COSMI is currently championing in Anuradhapura and Hambantota. Verite Research shall raise public awareness on the issues through their media reach.

In Hambantota, COSMI is looking at the plight of domestic industrialists who have lost access to the critical roadside market due to the advent of the highway. In Anuradhapura COSMI alongside the Anuradhapura District Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture is looking at the negative externalities of the Wew Gam Pubuduwa Climate Resilient Integrated Water Management Project.

The MoU was described as very important by COSMI Governing Council Chairman Macky Hashim and that it would create an important public discourse bringing in bottom-up insight into the impact of many large scale infrastructure projects. Verite Research is also looking at other projects as well to bring their insight.
