Gampaha mulls making vaccination cards mandatory - Prasanna

The Committee on the Prevention of the COVID-19 Pandemic Outbreak in Gampaha has turned its attention to make vaccination cards mandatory in public places and festivals in a bid to curb the rising spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He said that the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the booster dose will be expedited across the Gampaha District in the coming weeks and actions to make the vaccination card mandatory will be taken thereafter.

The Gampaha District Committee on Prevention of COVID-19 Pandemic Outbreak was convened yesterday under the patronage of Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

It has been revealed around 1,452,709 people in the Gampaha District have been administered with the first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines while only 422,733 people have obtained the booster dose so far.

Therefore, the Minister urged the relevant authorities to make people aware of the booster dose which is the only solution for the prevention of the outbreak.

He said that people are hesitant to obtain the COVID-19 booster dose because of the misinformation spread by certain people, especially the Opposition members. These people want to put this country into trouble again.

“So, we urge the people not to be deceived by misinformation and get the vaccines as early as possible to save their lives,” the Minister said.
