Over 20 acres in the Dorapoda Forest Reserve in Lunugala were devastated in a wildfire on Sunday.
During the dry season, some villagers are in the habit of entering the forest reserve and setting fire to catch wild animals for game meat, villagers said.
They said that these villagers engage in this habit during the entire dry season, thereby destroying hundreds of acres of the forest.
