Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath said that newly recruited graduates to the Public Service should remember that they were beneficiaries of free education, hence must serve the country with dedication. She made this observation while presenting appointment letters to 600 permanent development officers at a ceremony held at Uvarmalai Vivekananda College, Trincomalee on Wednesday morning (26).

Although appointments were to be made to 2,000 graduates yesterday, letters of appointment were issued only to 600 graduates to represent all the graduates. She said that these measures were taken following health guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Letters of appointment for the other 1,400 graduates had been mailed. “You are all beneficiaries of free education. You had free education up to the university level. There is no other country in the world that offers so much free education till the university level. Do not forget what the country has done for you. Providing government jobs to all graduates is something a government cannot do. But our government accepted that challenge. Our country is the only country, where political parties end up campaigning for government jobs.”

The event was attended by Trincomalee District MP Kapila Nuwan Athukorala, Trincomalee District Secretary Saman Darsana Pandikorala, Secretary to the Governor's Secretary L..P Madanayake, and the Province Chief Secretary Dissanayake (Administration).
