The Government hopes to deploy floating solar panels in large scale reservoirs in the Mahaweli development project in a bid to add more renewable energy to the national grid.
Irrigation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said a renewable energy generation project will be launched shortly by deploying floating solar panels in large capacity reservoirs.
The Minister said that the project is planned to be launched in the Mahaweli Reservoirs in the Central Highlands where large water bodies exist including Victoria and Randenigala reservoirs.
The Minister said that this will enable the generation of electricity and connecting it to the national grid as well as reducing the evaporation of water from large scale reservoirs.
Rajapaksa was speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the new three storied building of the Deltota Divisional Secretariat and the renovated old administration building constructed at a cost of Rs.126 million.
