Battle against dengue intensifies

A dengue eradication programme was carried out in the Pottuvil MOH Division covering seven Grama Niladhari Divisions on Saturday on the instructions of Kalmunai Regional Director of Health Services Dr. I.L.M. Rifas.

Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and Field Officers led by Pottuvil Medical Officer of Health Dr. U.L. Abdul Samad inspected houses, schools, preschools, State Institutions and other places where water stagnates. Twenty seven residents were cautioned and two persons were asked to appear in Courts who ignored dengue breeding spots at their residences and gardens.

MOH Dr. Abdul Samad said that 198 persons including children, elderly people and pregnant women were infected with dengue in the Pottuvil Division during the last three months and 41-year-old persons was reported dead of dengue.

The MOH also said that Army, STF, Police and Navy Personnel are extending their fullest support to eradicate dengue from the country.
