No lights on Kataragama roads

Many streets in the Kataragama sacred city have no lights and this poses a risk of theft to pilgrims and visitors, both local and foreign. Kataragama Hospital Road, the road leading to the city’s resthouses, Depot Road, Sella Kataragama Road, Nagahaveediya Road, the Kirivehera roads with the bridge No. 03are pitch dark at night.

There have been a number of thefts in the past, and thefts could increase given the economic crisis in the country. The people of Kataragama request the Ceylon Electricity Board to take steps to provide electricity as venomous snakes also frequent these roads.
