Former SJB MP Ranjan Ramanayake who is in jail is scheduled to sit for the final examination of his first year Bachelor of Arts degree on June 4.
Commissioner General of Prisons (Administration and Rehabilitation) Chandana Ekanayake said that Ramanayake will sit the examination under the special protection of prison officials in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Prisons Department.
The Department of Prisons had allowed him to register at the Open University of Sri Lanka for a degree in Youth Affairs and Community Development and to continue his studies in the prison from January this year.
Ramanayake was also allowed to attend the relevant external degree course lectures online from the Welikada Prison and he participated in the online lectures in the presence of a Prison Rehabilitation Officer. He was also allowed to bring in the textbook and additional notes on the subject he was studying under the strict supervision of a prison officer.
