The Public Service Commission (PSC) had directed the Public Security Ministry Secretary to submit a report within three days regarding the action taken by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to transfer of three senior DIGs with immediate effect, without the approval of the PSC.
The relevant letter was sent by PSC Secretary M. A. B. Senarath to the Public Security Ministry Secretary S. Hettiarachchi.
The PSC had called for an explanation from the Public Security Ministry Secretary S. Hettiarachchi regarding the transfer of the three senior officers which should have been done only after the approval of the Public Service Commission and how the IGP had carried out the transfers without PSC approval.
The letter also states that the powers relating to the transfer of Senior DIGs and DIGs have been transferred to the Public Service Commission by Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2202/24 dated November 20, 2020.
It further states that the IGP had sanctioned these transfers violating the authority vested in the PSC. Accordingly, the PSC Secretary had instructed the Public Security Ministry Secretary S. Hettiarachchi to submit the report before June 3.
The IGP had transferred three senior DIGs M.D.R.Daminda, Ajith Rohana and acting Senior DIG L.K.W.A. Silva on May 27, citing service requirements.
