Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that the amount allocated for one day's nutritional food for primary and pre-schoolchildren is not sufficient at all.
The Minister also said that steps will be taken to prepare a Cabinet Memorandum for this purpose and obtain approval to increase the allocation.
He was speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department on Thursday (2).
The Minister said that he had held several rounds of discussions with international organisations such as the World Food Programme, the United Nations Development Programme and the UNICEF, as well as the embassies of friendly countries in Sri Lanka in the last few days to obtain the necessary assistance for this programme.
The Education Ministry has already taken steps to provide nutritious food to 1.1 million primary and pre-school children.
