Waga Sangramaya to be implemented in Colombo District

Colombo District Secretary Pradeep Yasaratne yesterday stated that plans are afoot to implement the Waga Sangramaya (Cultivation War) in the Colombo District as well to provide a quick solution to the food crisis and to increase the productivity of the country.

He pointed out that various cultivation programmes are being implemented with the aim of increasing production and accordingly the above programme will be implemented in the future in the Colombo District to further increase the production of the country.

He said that discussions are currently underway on how to implement the relevant programme and that it will be possible to launch the Colombo District programme in the coming days. Meanwhile, Ven. Prof. Magammana Pagnananda Thera pointed out that plans have been made to launch the above programme and discussions are currently underway in this regard.

More than 2 million home gardening families are planned to be developed through this programme which is being implemented as a national policy to promote local food production and involve the people at household level.

Menawhile, on Sunday, Malwatte Chief Prelate Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera said that a cultivation programme has been launched at all temples in the country as a solution to the impending food crisis in the country.
