Give diesel to private buses through depots - Gemunu

Ceylon Private Bus Owners' Association President Gemunu Wijeratne said that out of 18,000 buses owned by members of his organisation, only 20 percent (4000) operated yesterday (7) due to fuel shortage.

He said around 5,000 buses operated the day before and today it may get down to 4,000 and by tomorrow it could be less than 1,000 buses if operators fail to obtain diesel. Wijeratne also pointed out the government failure to provide fuel to private buses through SLTB depots as promised could lead to a clash between the SLTB and private buses and that the government should intervene immediately to ensure such a calamity does not happen.
