Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) officials have launched a major crackdown on food hoarders in Jaffna with complaints of wrongdoings and soaring prices, during the economic crisis.

The raids are continuing with the Jaffna Government Agent too complaining to the Consumer Affairs Authority about food hoarders and arbitrary price hikes.

Officers of the Jaffna CAA have already taken legal action against the owners of seven shops who were hoarding and selling essential food items including rice and sugar at exorbitant prices.

During the raid carried out by these officers in Jaffna, it was found that 32 shops were engaged in illegal activities and were selling goods at higher prices.

Owners of 25 outlets who were found to have engaged in less serious activities were severely warned about the repercussions of repeating the offences.
