Liquor shops closed today

All liquor shops have to be kept closed today (14), which is Poson Poya. The Department of the Commissioner General of Excise has notified all liquor shop owners about the closure.

Accordingly, 8,300 investigation officers would be deployed to nab errant liquor sellers countrywide and to arrest those who violate the Acts of the Excise Department.

Meanwhile, 2,800 PHI s would be deployed countrywide to examine the places where free food and drinks are offered to pilgrims, said P. Sarath, Chief PHI (Administration) of the Kurunegala district.
