Special security arrangements for Poson

Sri Lanka Police have deployed 2,500 officers to ensure the security of the devotees, their belongings and the sacred sites in Anuradhapura, during the Poson week, which is in effect from June 11 to 16, police said. The police officers commenced the special Poson week duties from 6.a.m. yesterday with the support of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Civil Security Department. Police officers will engage in road blocks, traffic control, mobile patrols, life-saving services, environment protection and intelligence and surveillance duties. Police, Navy and Civil Security Department life-saving officers have been deployed in the vicinity of the reservoirs in addition to the notice and warning boards and awareness campaigns on the risky places of the reservoirs.

There will be 18 vehicle parks in the Anuradhapura sacred city area and seven parks in the Mihintale sacred city area, where 24 hour police security is available. Police will also provide security to the railway stations as a large number of devotees are expected to travel to and from Anuradhapura during this period, police headquarters further said.
