Child and Women Bureau provides inquiry excerpts to AG

The Child and Women Bureau has sent extracts of Police investigations related to Wednesday’s incident of the mother from Wattala who attempted suicide after throwning her five year old son into Kelani river from the Kadirana bridge , to the Attorney General’s Department to determine legal actions,  the Bureau’s OIC Chief Inspector Samanthi Renuka yesterday told the Daily News.

The Navy, which launched a search operation on Wednesday to recover the body of the child, had not found the body at the time this story went to press at 4 pm yesterday.

Child and Women Bureau OIC CI Renuka said they sent the extracts of the investigations, Judicial Medical Officer’s report on the mother’s medical condition and other relevant material to the AG’s Department for further actions.”

Police said that the woman under investigation in this case, the 42-year-old mothers from Wattala, had allegedly committed this act because of a personal family crisis, and not because of her light purse or financial hardships. According to reports, she was said to be suffering from a long-term illness.

She had allegedly come to the Kadirana Bridge on crutches. She had the child with her. She allegedly pushed the child into the river and then she tried to jump into the same river. The people had stopped her, police said.
