Seekkuge stars as Army beat Colts to clinch Championship

All-rounder Seekkuge Prasanna took 3/17 and scored 29 in 20 balls as Army SC defeated Colombo Colts CC comfortably in the final of the Major Club T20 tournament played at P. Sara Oval yesterday.

Seekkuge Prasanna, opening the innings, used his experience to play a brisk innings which included 3 fours and a six while Ashan Randika (22) and Yasodha Mendis (21) made useful knocks to score 139/9 in their allotted 20 overs. All-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 25 in his 4-over spell.

Colts chasing a target of 140 were all out for 94 runs in 18.3 overs. Leg-spinner Seekkuge (3/17) and off-spinner Lakshan Edirisinghe (3/19) bowled well to put Colts CC under pressure and win the match with only nine balls to spare.

Seekkuge Prasanna was named the Man of the Final while Ashan Randika was adjudged the Man of the Tournament. Akila Dhananjaya, the Colts CC captain, was named Best Bowler of the tournament while Colts CC Sangeeth Cooray was named the Best Batsman of the Tournament.

Samantha Dodanwela the SLC chairman of the Tournament Committee and Head of Domestic Cricket Operations Chinthaka Edirimanne were the Chief Guests at the awards ceremony.
