May 9 mayhem: Over 2,850 arrested

Police have arrested 2,858 suspects in connection with the islandwide violence which took place on May 9, by Saturday (18), Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said. Within the 24-hour period ending on Sunday morning, police had arrested 11 suspects while 10 suspects were released on bail and another five were remanded on Saturday alone.

Police units are currently conducting investigations into 857 complaints received on the May 9 incidents, the SSP said.
