Most Kandy schools are Dengue breeding grounds - KMC

Dengue larvae have been found in 30 of the 32 schools inspected within the Kandy city limits during the past six weeks, Kandy Municipal Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr.Pasan Parakum Jayasinghe said.

During the relevant period, 100 dengue patients have been identified in the Kandy city limits and 69 of them are schoolchildren, he said.

So far this year, 223 dengue patients have been identified in the city limits, including 106 school children. He said that among the schools identified as having dengue larvae were some of the most popular schools in the city. He also said that the spread of dengue larvae in schools has been found to be at a higher level than usual due to the non-continuation of the school environment cleaning process as a number of extra holidays had come in due to the current crisis.
