The Agriculture Ministry yesterday decided to cancel leave of all staff in institutions under its purview to ensure that fertilizer will be distributed among the farming community without any delay.
The Government will provide 65,000 MT of Urea to Sri Lanka and ship is scheduled to arrive in the country by July 6.
Accordingly, leave of staff in the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Services, Ceylon Fertilizer Company, Commercial Fertilizer Company will be cancelled.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday gave instructions to Agriculture Ministry Secretary Rohana Pushkumara to take all necessary steps to distribute the stock of fertilizer to the farming community without any delay.
Fertilizer stocks will be transported to Agrarian Development Centers Island wide after them being unloaded at the harbour.
Meanwhile, the extent of paddy lands that have been cultivated for the Yala season by June 22 has increased to 492,612.43 hectares, which is 82% of the total area of paddy planned to be cultivated.
