Private bus operators say that private bus services were reduced by around 90 percent yesterday (27) due to the non-revision of bus fares following the increase in diesel prices.
Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association said that private bus services will be kept to a minimum until the new fare revision is announced.
Inter-provincial bus services were also reduced by 75 percent, said Sarath Vijitha Kumara, President of the Inter-Provincial Private Bus Owners’ Association.
Wijeratne said he expects a positive response to the bus fare revision from the Minister of Transport Dr. Bandula Gunawardena today.
