The paddy fields under the Vakanery Irrigation Area had been harvested for the Yala Season -2022 on Thursday (30).
Vakanery Irrigation Project Management Committee President S. Puapakaran, Batticaloa Government Agent K.Karunagaran were the chief guest and Batticaloa Irrigation Engineer N.Nagaretnam, Assistant Director K.Jegannath were special guests.
The harvesting took place in Thavanai Kandam in Kiran and all those present took a sickle each and began the harvest. The Government Agent said that nearly 36,000 hectares of paddy cultivation will go a long way in solving the food crisis and we expect a bountiful harvest in the Maha Season-2022.
