Sapumal the soccerite turned cricketer

Twenty year old,Sapumal Gihantha Fernando, an outstanding sportsman of Lexicon International School, Kandy did extremely well in cricket and soccer and he got an opportunity to join Dharmaraja College,Kandy for his higher studies as well as his sports ability and at his new School he was selected to the cricket pool and soccer pool of Dharmaraja College.

In Soccer Sapumal has improved his goal-keeping tremendously and was selected to the Kandy District Football team in 2018 & 2019 and the following year he was selected to the Up-Country Lions Soccer team. He has taken another step forward when he was named by his Head Coach, K.M.T. Konara for the Sri Lanka National Pool along with E.S.Ekanayake and A.M.T.K.Bandara both from Kandy District Soccer team.

As a Cricketer Sapumal represented his former School in all age groups such as Under 13,15,17 and Under 19 as a right hand Batsman and a left arm medium pace bowler and he also represented Kandy Cricket and Athletic Academy in Club matches for three years since 2016.

His highest score was 102 against Poramadulla National School while his best Bowling performance was 8 wickets for Thirty Four runs against Kandy Model school.and his Cricket Coaches were the writer and Indika Fernando as well as Samson Burke. Sapumal left School this year after getting through his G.C.E.(A/L) in the Language Stream but he has continued playing soccer under K.M.T.Konara while playing Cricket at the Kandy Cricket & Athletic Academy and his intention is to represent Sri Lanka in Cricket and Soccer at International Level.
