Due to the current shortage of cement in the market, manufacturers of concrete structures in the Matale District as well as contractors and builders, have been forced to shut down their industries, putting thousands of people at the risk of losing their jobs in the sector.

Currently, some young men in the district are self-employed making various concrete structures and there is a high demand for them in the market, while they are being inconvenienced due to the present cement scarcity .

Also, private builders have been forced to halt constructions due to the dearth of cement.

Meanwhile, consumers point out that the price of a cement bag currently in the market is over Rs. 3200. They also said that the main reason for this is the trade monopoly by the private sector and there is no proper control price for any product.

Under this situation, prices of all cement related products have gone up and consumers are facing problems. Therefore, the cement product manufacturers says that the government should immediately implement an easy method of selling cement to consumers.
