Danish Ali and Weranga remanded for violating Court orders

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered yesterday to remand Ali Danish Ali and Weranga Pushpika De Silva, who were arrested for violating Court orders, until August 10.

A group of lawyers appeared on behalf of the suspects pleading to release their clients on bail.

The Magistrate stated that the bail order will be announced on August 10.

Meanwhile, Danish Ali has been sentenced to 14 days and transferred to the Welikada Prison for using a mobile phone while in remand prison on Thursday. The suspect, who is currently detained at the New Magazine Prison was caught by prison officers with a mobile phone in his possession.

Accordingly, he was produced before a Prisons Board of Inquiry on Thursday (04) on the charge of using a mobile phone which is a prohibited item in prison. According to the Commissioner of Prisons (Administration and Rehabilitation) Chandana Ekanayake, the suspect pleaded guilty before the Colombo Additional District Judge and was sentenced to 14 days and transferred to the Welikada Prison.
